Michael Gallagher is an established Contemporary artist whose work resides in the permanent collections of the nation’s prestigious art museums – Guggenheim, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian, to name a few. With exhibits in over seventy national and international museums and galleries, his subject, style, and technology continue to be the focus of curators, collectors, and scholars.
He is an abstract painter whose painting career began in SoHo, New York. He is a founding member of the Abstract Illusionism movement that originated there in the 1970s. The defining elements of this style create the illusion of depth. Using paint as an element in its own right, it illusionistically floats both in front and behind the picture plane. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_B._Gallagher
“Gallagher’s paintings have that distinctly historical awareness to them. But their formulation, with its highly rhythmic choreographing of disparate forms and elements — straight edges, loops, squiggles, drips, grids, jagged strokes, calligraphic gestures, side by side parallel structures, interwoven forms, continuous and discontinuous lines — and especially their gala color, with baby blues jammed up against hot reds, chalky greens, bloody flesh tones, make for fresh, vivid, and extremely likable pictures.” – Soho Weekly News
